The provincial government is well on its way to setting an all-time high for flu vaccinations this year, but that number is still nowhere near the government’s goal for this flu season.
Health officials are aiming high for vaccination totals this year – 85 per cent of the population
According to Health Minister Dr. John Haggie, over 167,000 shots have been administered so far, which is over 40,000 more than this time last year.
People will still be coming out in large numbers over the next month, with another 50,000 appointments already booked in that time-frame.
Haggie says even if that’s as many as the province can get, it will still be a record year with 42 per cent of the population being vaccinated.
But, ultimately, we need to double that number says Haggie. However, given that it is still early on in the flu season, he is encouraged by the numbers.
Eastern Health has updated the phone number to book a home visit for a flu shot.
Home visits by community health nurses are available for those who are frail or otherwise homebound and cannot travel to a clinic for a flu shot.
The new number to call is 1-833-752-4167.
