Fauci reveals how COVID-19 touched his family

Dr. Anthony Fauci has revealed that the brother of his youngest daughter Alison’s boyfriend died of complications from the coronavirus, according to a report.

The nation’s top infectious diseases expert was asked during a livestreamed interview hosted by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health whether he knew anyone in his personal life affected by the illness.

“The answer is yes, but one in particular, my youngest daughter’s boyfriend’s brother is a 32-year-old young man, athletic, healthy, who got COVID-19 and had one of the unusual complications of cardiomyopathy with an arrhythmia and died,” Fauci told CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, the moderator, HuffPost reported.

“So there you have a 32-year-old young man, otherwise healthy actually, quite athletic and strong, who died,” said Fauci, who heads the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“Very sad. Really saddened my daughter greatly,” added the top doc, who has three daughters with his wife, Christine Grady – Jennifer, 34, Megan, 31, and Alison is 28.

He did not spend time with his kids on Thanksgiving due to the pandemic, according to HuffPost.

On Wednesday, the US reportedly hit a record of single-day COVID-19 deaths — topping 3,000 for the first time – and an average of over 200,000 Americans per day were testing positive for the illness, another record.

A total of almost 290,000 deaths and more than 15 million infections have been recorded as of Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University. Per capita, the US has the 11th-highest number of coronavirus deaths in the world — or a rate of 877.63 per 1 million people, according to Statista.
