Today is Holocaust Day of Remembrance and a local Rabbi says it’s more important now than ever, to remember.
On April 8, people commemorate the millions of lives and heroism of Jewish people who died in the Holocaust between 1933 and 1945.
Rabbi Chanan Chernitsky of the local Chabad of St. John’s says it’s important to acknowledge and remember the horrific events as acts of hate continue to happen to this day.
Now, with very few Holocaust survivors left, Chernitsky believes it’s even more crucial to remember.
He says unfortunately, they do see that hatred is gaining momentum. Yet, in contrast, they also see that there is more awareness of antisemitism and other forms of hatred.
Rabbi Chernitsky says the local Chabad of St. John’s will be gathering over Zoom along with guest speakers to mark the day.
